Date Revised: June 29, 2023

In this recorded webinar, Sammie Yineman, D.M.D., M.P.H., discusses the barriers that people with autism face when encountering the dental office and what can be done in preparation for these visits to make them more tolerable. Whether you are a parent, friend, caregiver, or a person living with autism, learn about how small modifications can make a big difference in establishing a dental home.

Who is Sammie Yineman?

Sammie Yineman, DMD, MPHSammie Yineman, D.M.D., M.P.H., is a general dentist in Phoenix, Arizona. Raised in North Dakota, she majored in Psychology at North Dakota State University. She always knew that she wanted to be a dentist. She and her two siblings were inspired by their mom’s career path as a hygienist and now are all dentists themselves.

Yineman earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) and Master’s in Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees from AT Still University/Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. She declared that she never wanted to shovel snow again and decided to make Arizona her home, where she went on to complete her Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) training, also at ASDOH through NYU Langone Hospitals. During her AEGD training, she worked with many severely medically compromised patients and learned a lot about autism and other disorders and how they impact the oral environment. After practicing general dentistry in Chandler full time, she moved back to ASDOH and became a full-time instructor at the dental clinic. She continues to practice dentistry in a private office on Mondays. In her free time, she enjoys lifting weights, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, playing the piano, doing puzzles, spending time outdoors, and spoiling her puppies!
